What is the Age of Aquarius, the Aquarian Gospel, and their Relation to the New World Order?

In the realm of astrological and esoteric beliefs, the "Age of Aquarius" is a term that frequently surfaces, often linked to ideas of transformation, enlightenment, and societal change. The term "Age of Aquarius" has gained prominence in popular culture and New Age spirituality, often associated with a transformative era that promises peace, unity, and spiritual enlightenment. However, beyond its appealing promises, the concept of the Age of Aquarius warrants a closer examination, especially from a Christian perspective. As Christians, it is prudent to approach such concepts with a humble and discerning heart, seeking understanding through the lens of biblical truth.

The Age of Aquarius is one of the twelve astrological ages, each corresponding to a zodiac sign and lasting approximately 2,160 years. Some believe humanity is transitioning from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. This new age is thought to bring heightened consciousness, technological advancement, and a collective shift towards unity and humanitarianism. Supporters of the Age of Aquarius claim it will bring significant changes in human consciousness, highlighting qualities like innovation, humanitarianism, and a more egalitarian and spiritually aware society. They see it as a break from traditional structures, moving towards a more enlightened and harmonious world.

The Aquarian Gospel

The "Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ," a text published in the early 20th century by Levi H. Dowling, is also often associated with this astrological age. However, it is essential to ground our understanding in Scripture. The Aquarian Gospel is a false teaching that does not provide an accurate account of the life and true teachings of Jesus Christ. Several other books claim to reveal parts of Jesus' life that are "missing" from the Bible, but none are credible. Only the Word of God is infallible and accurately portrays Jesus' life and teachings. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

The Aquarian Gospel is a contradictory mixture of Christian Science, New Age spirituality, and occult beliefs. Some of its material is borrowed from the ancient Gospel of James, a well-known forgery from the early years of the church. The book contains many inaccuracies; for instance, it starts with a historical error: "Augustus Caesar reigned and Herod Antipas was ruler in Jerusalem." In reality, Antipas ruled in Galilee, not Jerusalem. A crucial problem is its claim that Jesus obtained His wisdom from masters in India, Greece, and other countries. If this were true, why do His teachings, as recorded in the biblical Gospels, directly conflict with central beliefs of Hinduism, Buddhism, and other religions He supposedly encountered? The biblical Gospels give us a firsthand account of Jesus' life and ministry, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16). The Aquarian Gospel is a false portrait of Christ's life, based not on historical records or eyewitness testimony but on the imagination of a nineteenth-century writer.

New World Order, Age of Aquarius and the Aquarian Gospel

The notion of the New World Order intertwines with discussions about the Age of Aquarius and the Aquarian Gospel. This concept often refers to a covert plan to establish a single global government, which could be linked to the reign of the Antichrist as described in the book of Revelation. The idea of the Age of Aquarius is often intertwined with the concept of the New World Order, a term used to describe the emergence of a global governance system that seeks to unify nations under a single political, economic, and spiritual framework. Advocates of the New World Order often envision a utopian world where peace, security, and prosperity are achieved through global cooperation. However, this vision also raises concerns about the potential for spiritual deception and the erosion of traditional Christian values.

The connection between the Age of Aquarius and the New World Order lies in the shared emphasis on a transformative shift in global consciousness. New Age spirituality, which heavily promotes the Age of Aquarius, often aligns with the goals of the New World Order by advocating for a new spiritual paradigm that transcends traditional religious boundaries. This paradigm frequently promotes the idea of a universal spirituality that diminishes the exclusive claims of Christianity, such as Jesus' declaration in John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

The Aquarian Gospel aligns with New Age spirituality by presenting a version of Jesus Christ that diverges from traditional Christian teachings. It incorporates elements of Hinduism, Buddhism, and other philosophies, suggesting that Jesus acquired wisdom from masters in India, Greece, and other countries. This portrayal supports the New Age emphasis on universal spirituality and the blending of various religious traditions. By doing so, the Aquarian Gospel downplays the unique and exclusive teachings of Christianity, which is a hallmark of the New Age worldview. This alignment with New Age spirituality further connects the Aquarian Gospel to the broader goals of the Age of Aquarius and the New World Order, both of which seek to create a unified, spiritually enlightened global society.

Bible Perspective

As Christians, our focus should be on living out the teachings of Christ, regardless of the era we find ourselves in. The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 calls us to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." This mission remains constant, transcending any astrological age, gospel, or worldly order.

Furthermore, the Bible cautions against placing undue emphasis on celestial bodies for guidance. Deuteronomy 4:19 warns, "And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven."

The Bible also warns us many times about false prophets and teachings. 2 Peter 2:1 says, "But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies..." Satan is a deceiver and will try all sorts of things to lead people away from the true message of the cross. We must compare every teaching with Scripture, and if it does not agree, then we must reject it as false teaching.

Moreover, the pursuit of a New World Order that seeks to unify humanity under a single spiritual and political system can be seen as a precursor to the events described in the Book of Revelation. Revelation 13:7-8 speaks of a time when a global leader, empowered by Satan, will exercise authority over "every tribe and people and language and nation," and all who dwell on the earth will worship him, except those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. This passage points to a future where global unity is achieved at the cost of true faith in Jesus Christ, leading to widespread apostasy and spiritual deception.

Conclusion

In conclusion, while the Age of Aquarius and the Aquarian Gospel are intriguing topics, they should not distract us from the core message of the Gospel. The Age of Aquarius, a concept rooted in astrology and New Age spirituality, promises a new era of enlightenment and global unity. However, from a Christian perspective, this concept is fraught with spiritual dangers, as it promotes ideas that are contrary to biblical teachings. Both the Age of Aquarius and the New World Order advocate for a global government under New Age spirituality, echoing the biblical prophecy about the Antichrist's reign and a one-world religion under the false prophet.

Revelation 13:7-8 speaks of the Antichrist, highlighting the global dominion and enforced worship that align with the goals of the New World Order and the Age of Aquarius. Furthermore, Revelation 13:11-12 describes the second beast, representing the false prophet of the end-time global false religion. This false prophet promotes a unified spiritual deception that mirrors New Age spirituality's aim of blending various religious traditions into one.

As believers, we are called to stand firm in the truth of God's Word and to be discerning of the spiritual trends and movements that seek to lead us astray. In Ephesians 6:10-11, Paul urges us to "be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil." By grounding ourselves in Scripture and relying on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can navigate these challenging times with wisdom and faith, holding fast to the hope we have in Christ Jesus.

Our hope and security lie in Christ alone. By anchoring ourselves in Scripture and seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance, we can navigate these discussions with wisdom and grace, always pointing back to the eternal truth of God’s Word. May we continue to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, as Jesus instructs in Matthew 6:33, and trust that all other things will be given to us as well. Amen.
